Professional poets from around the Bay Area share their writings, compositional experiences, and methods while guiding sophomore students through poetry writing exercises. Poets will respond personally to students’ work and encourage them in their writing. This grant also provides guest poets for students enrolled in the 11/12 poetry elective.

Guest actors from the Marin Shakespeare Company lead a series of hands-on interactive experiences for all 9th- and 10th-grade students. Through in-class demonstrations and in-depth character discussions, students explore the oral and dramatic interpretation of Shakespeare. Students then perform what they've learned before a live audience.

This grant allows every 11th-grader to attend a matinee performance at the Marin Theatre Company (MTC). MTC members visit classrooms to prepare students for the play with performance study guides. This program also provides English teachers creative and engaging methods for making dramatic literature come alive for students.
